Yggdrasil

A few years ago I found out my dad had a brother he never knew about. My dad was adopted, and through 23andMe we found his brother Chris. We met him face to face in 2018 and my dad got two years with his brother before he passed in 2020. Finding family you didn't know existed is a strange and wonderful thing. Uncle Chris was way into Norse mythology and started telling me all about it. Odin, the nine worlds, and at the center of it all — Yggdrasil. The World Tree. This massive ash tree that connects everything, its roots reaching into the underworld, its branches touching the heavens.

The whole universe held together by one tree.

Chris and I also did a lot of genealogy work together and found out our family roots are Viking and Germanic.

I've drawn a few versions of it over the years and I keep coming back to it. The swirling roots especially.

If you're into Norse mythology or just love a really good tree, my Yggdrasil designs are available in my Zazzle shop. And you can see more of my tree art and photography on my trees page.

Thanks Uncle Chris.
